Is A Reverse Osmosis Shower Filter The Best Way To go?

There are pros and cons in the use of reverse osmosis shower filter systems.

It has become common knowledge that for many health reasons it’s a good idea to use some type of shower water filtration system. It’s debatable which system is better than the others.

Here are the pros:

  • A positive aspect of reverse osmosis is that it has a multi stage setup. Water purification is done in more than one stage ensuring pure and safe water.
  • There are also three stages of purification. These include carbon filtering, sub micron filtering and ion exchange purification. They combine to ensure very safe and pure drinking water.
  • The reverse osmosis system pushes water through the filter with the help of a lot of pressure. The filter in this case is a semi permeable membrane.
  • During the process the concentration of toxins will decrease. There are different types of membranes and the kind you choose is decided by the kind of water your house gets.
  • When the water passes through the membrane carious toxins will be effectively removed. It will also remove germs and bacteria.

Now for some of the “cons”:

  • This method is only eight five percent effective. Some harmful bacteria are left behind in the water. To achieve 100% the water passing through a membrane must be combined with another system like an activated carbon system.
  • Unfortunately the system also removes valuable minerals from the water- like calcium, potassium, and magnesium- that the human body needs on a daily basis.  This causes two negative things to happen:

1. When we drink water that is lacking in minerals our body take minerals from out teeth and bones.

2. Our bodily fluids become too acidic due to the lack of minerals. This can cause an increased chance of getting cancer because free radicals are shown to grow in these types of conditions.

  • These systems are also not that effective at removing synthetic chemicals, pesticides and herbicides.
  • The result of all this is that the purified water can have a bad taste to it. It is often described as having a very corrosive taste.
  • nd finally, they aren’t the cheapest systems to buy, especially for what you get- or don’t get.
